Four Rivers Sanitation Authority Employee

Passion is the Difference Between a Job or a Career.

Since 1926 (yes! 1926!) the men and women of Four Rivers Sanitation Authority have been engaged in the process of keeping our regional environment clean and safe. We do the good work of applying natural scientific methods to clean modern society’s wastewater and transform it to nearly-potable condition before returning it to the natural environment.

We chose the name “Four Rivers” in a 2021 re-branding effort because we serve and protect four important regional watersheds named after the rivers that run through them: the Rock, Kishwaukee, Pecatonica and Sugar rivers.

Our values are honesty, transparency, diligence and commitment to the people, creatures and land we serve and strive to protect. And we are committed to continuous improvement. Alongside nine others in a peer group of sanitation districts, we are dedicated to collaborating via river water sampling and the application of sound process technology to reduce effluent phosphorus limits to .5mg/L by January 1, 2030.

We’re a tight-knit team that supports one-another at all times, whether sitting or standing behind desks, in labs or out in the field … on sunny days and in the worst storm conditions.

FRSA offers excellent compensation and benefits, time off and opportunities for career advancement. You won’t just think you’re appreciated here. You’ll know you’re appreciated at Four Rivers Sanitation Authority.

Above all else, we offer team members the satisfaction of enhanced self-worth – of knowing they are members of an elite group of scientists, technologists, tradesmen and women, analysts, administrators and staff who make a tangible difference in the quality of life of hundreds of thousands of regional residents every single day. We are among the region’s original and most committed environmentalists.

Our Values

Customer Service

We put our customers’ needs first, always striving for best-in-class customer service. At Four Rivers Sanitation Authority, we see each other as internal customers – and work hard individually and collectively to build a positive, respectful workplace. We also reach outside our organization to peers and other stakeholders to build productive partnerships. These approaches enhance our ability to respond to problems and solve them quickly – and contribute to a productive, happy team atmosphere of mutual respect.

Clear
Communications

In the public sector, just as in the private sector, it is important for organizations such as Four Rivers Sanitation Authority to communicate clearly and transparently. We perform critical services that are the underpinnings of modern life ’round the clock. We consider it a privilege to do the work we do and wish to tell our story whenever we can: past, present, future – so our customers know who we are and how we fit into their daily lives. In so doing, we commit to using as many channels – traditional and digital – to get out our messages.

Commitment to Community

As environmentalists, our primary goal is to be practical, skillful stewards of our environment as we return fresh, clean water to the environment – every minute of every day. We are first-call practitioners of economic development. No manufacturing or food service business can expand or locate in our region without our collaborative involvement. We make every effort to help early in such processes and make expanding our economy feasibly, safe and as easy as possible.

As demonstrated elsewhere in this website, our commitment to the environment extends to repurposing materials we handle to farm fertilizer and co-generating a significant amount of electric power during our daily operations. And, finally, we are constantly in the process of evaluating our communities’ future needs while performing ongoing preventative maintenance to prevent equipment aging that could be detrimental to our performance.
